The British designer Antony Price, the visionary style architect behind some of the most iconic looks worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, including the pastel suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

This news arrives shortly after he debuted his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by looks from model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in designing body-hugging looks established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as a number of outfits for her American tour following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The industry mourns the loss to a authentic original whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
