A charity drive is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort aims to deliver assistance to Gaza's residents while also spotlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be fantastic if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.
“The song holds a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
The single was laid down following a solidarity show held in the autumn. First conceived to be done as a live recording, the rendition was cut from the show due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of artists contributing to Lullaby includes a group of prominent voices from the music world. All participated in the September show, which managed to collect a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Lullaby was produced by a group of talented individuals. The single showcases a combination of the heritage language with freshly written English words.
The organizers behind the project have emphasized that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These resources will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a spokesperson explained. “We’ll go for whatever we can get. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the region was noted for its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of property described as destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is first of all making this cause better known and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”
The track is set to be released at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made ready to watch on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
