Canada's Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup Against Los Angeles Dodgers

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial Fall Classic following 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the ALCS.

Behind three runs to one, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning, propelling the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 win in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the current crown, in the anticipated Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for our team, Toronto, our country," Springer stated, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."

George Springer has now connected for 23 October home runs, ranking him third in history after Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).

"There's probably not another player in the world that I'd prefer in that spot except for him with his October magic," noted Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the sole team yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it's painful" following his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts in the campaign.

"It's a special team. It's a shame that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this game," he continued.

The Blue Jays secured the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the opener on Friday.
