England Coach Southee Unsure on Ashes Participation

Tim Southee — The bowler's last Test for New Zealand was versus the English side in the final month of 2024.

England's bowling consultant Southee is still working through what his involvement will be during the forthcoming Ashes series in the host nation.

The former New Zealand seamer is only likely to be present for the opening match because of his involvement in the ILT20 competition, which starts on 2 December in the United Arab Emirates.

The 36-year-old, aged 36, assumed a role as the English team's pace bowling advisor in the warmer months after taking 391 scalps in 107 Tests for New Zealand.

Speaking as the English team for the opening of three Twenty20 games against the Kiwis was named, he stated of his participation: "We are still evaluating the situation at the present time.

"We'll see the outcome over the coming days."

England bowling legend Stuart Broad had declared the Australian side as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in no uncertainty over what to expect during the series, which begins on 21 November.

"I don't think there's at any time a bad Australian cricket team," Southee remarked.

"Our focus is firmly on our own objectives. I think the quality of [England's] team that's heading out to the host country is excellent.

"It should be an absolute cracker, that series. Not only [are|do] fans from both nations looking forward to it, I believe the whole cricket world is."

But, prior to the English team travel to Perth for the first Ashes match, they face New Zealand in the city of Christchurch on Saturday.
