New Year Revelers Urged to Dress Warmly with Wintry Weather Forecast Across the UK

Forecasters are reporting a frosty start to the new year, with wintry precipitation likely over large parts of the UK. Those celebrating are advised to dress warmly as sub-zero temperatures are forecast for New Year's Eve.

Celebratory Celebrations Continue In Spite of Forecasts

The Scottish capital's famous Hogmanay festivities are expected to proceed, a contrast to last year's cancellation. This is in spite of advisories for snow over northern Scotland.

As we enter Friday, advisories have been issued for Northern Ireland and stretching from Wales, across parts of the north-west, the West Midlands and all the way to London and most of the south-east of England.

Around 10cm of snow is expected to have settled in some areas by Friday morning, reaching up to 30cm on the top roads and uplands.

Public Health Advisories Released

Meanwhile, serious cold weather health warnings have been activated for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to remain in place until noon on 5 January, with readings expected to fall to between 3C and 5C.

Officials said this signified the weather could to cause significant impacts across medical and care provision. This includes a expected uptick in the mortality rate among those with health conditions or those 65 and older.
