Tracking the Venezuelan-affiliated Vessel 'Pursued' by American Maritime Authorities

We are checking images and video posted earlier today that show the scene of a alleged car bomb blast that Russian officials say fatally injured a senior military officer in Moscow.

Russian authorities confirmed that Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov was in the vehicle that exploded and that he succumbed of his injuries. An investigation is under way.

Our starting point to verify the site of where the images were from relied on social media reports saying the blast occurred on Yasenevaya Street in the southern district of the capital city of Russia.

Our analysis employed street-view imagery on digital map platforms and the local mapping service Yandex to corroborate the unique yellow colour of a adjacent residential complex seen in the video.

Locating additional buildings, streetlights and the street layout verified the exact location the footage were captured.

We also checked that the video clips were new and that the visuals had not undergone manipulated.
