Two Victims Identified in the Providence Campus Shooting as Police Continue Search for Perpetrator.

The pair of scholars who died in the weekend's tragic incident on the university campus were being remembered Monday – while an intensive search for their assailant persisted following the discharge by local law enforcement of the only individual questioned in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

Her role included second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of College Republicans of America, as the club stated. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared words of sorrow publicly, stating: “It's indescribable. Remembering her loved ones and companions, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, from Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the prestigious university, his family confirmed.

His name was verified by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.

The Shooting Incident

Nine other people were wounded in the violent event in the school of engineering of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Law enforcement reported late Sunday that a 24-year-man taken into custody in a police operation at a lodging about 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was being released.

“We have a murderer out there,” declared the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last day or so.”

Community Anxiety

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke new worry for our city”.

The assailant opened fire inside a classroom in the building on Saturday, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a 9mm pistol, a law enforcement official reported to the media outlet.

Officers that entered the lodging recovered two handguns and two ammunition clips when the suspect was arrested, the news agency reported.

Condition of the Injured

Regarding the nine injured, one pupil was allowed to go home, said the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in critical but stable condition, and another was critically ill, officials reported on Sunday.

A private school, a private K-12 school in the city of Durham, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

Additional Memorials

Cook was honored at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only during her upbringing... but at the university she was a shining example in that specific location as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the club. “Ella was known for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she served her chapter and other students,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by Umurzokov’s death in a tribute. “We extend our sincere condolences to his relatives, loved ones, and peers and grieve for of his potential.”

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the country's seventh most historic university with about over seven thousand undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, happened during one of at least 392 mass shootings documented across the United States so far in the current year, according to statistics. That Monday marked the 349th day of the year.
